Q8: What are some common mistakes in Tai Chi practice?
A8:
Correct way:
- Relaxation.
- Continious and smooth motion.
- Circular/twisting movements.
Mistakes:
- Too much relaxation - incorrect skeletal support and chi movement.
- Not enough relaxation (muscles tight) - this effects both movement and breathing.
- Non-vertical position of the spine, including the neck (one should look directly
forward).
- Breathing with the upper lungs. This causes chi to be in the chest, rather than
sinking to the dan tien, resulting in raising of the shoulders.
- Keeping shoulders and/or elbows up rather than down.
