Master Lee was a professional body guard. Tam Tui (Seeking Legs) was Master
Lee's family style. Having achieved fame as a martial artist he became a
target for challanges. This was not unlike the Wild West, when gunslingers sought
out other famous gunslingers in order to make a name for themselves.
To avoid such unpleasantness, Master Lee retired to the Wah Lum (Beautiful Garden)
Temple, in the Ping To district of the Shantung province. The abbott of this
monastery was Ching Yeung, who was the 4th generation successor of Wong Long's
Praying Mantis style. The monks at the monastery practiced kung fu as well, and it
was rich in weapon sets.
While "taking refuge" at the Wah Lum Temple, Master Lee studied kung fu,
incorporating Tam Tui, Praying Mantis and Wah Lum weapons into his own system.
Out of respect for the temple he called it the Wah Lum style.
Upon leaving the temple he went back to being an escort and later had a
"meeting" with three infamous bandits - the Black Tigers. He killed them
and soon afterward retired from the escort service.
Subsequently Master Lee became a teacher. He traveled throughout China and
settled down in the village of Sha Cheng in Po On county of Kwantung(Canton)
province. It was there that Master Pui Chan, current Grand Master of the Wah Lum
system, became his disciple.
